Over 250 people, including two Korean nationals abducted by Zamfara bandits four months ago, have been released unconditionally, following negotiation with the abductors and Zamfara Peace Committee.

The Peace Committee was set up by the State governor, Bello Matawalle, to seek amicable end to banditry and investigate the alleged involvement of highly placed persons, especially the traditional leaders.

Abubakar, the chairman of the Peace Committee and former Inspector General of Police, disclosed the development on Wednesday in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State.

Abubakar told journalists that the security situation in the state was has improved tremendously, following the peace and reconciliation process initiated by the state government.

He appealed to the people of the state to embrace peace as the only option for peaceful coexistence in the state, which he said can open doors for more productive opportunities in the state.
