The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has declared presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the 2019 presidential election.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu made the declaration on Wednesday morning at the ICC Collation center in Abuja, following the official announcement of results from 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by the commission.

Buhari polled a total of 15,191,847 votes, while his main challenger, former vice president Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP polled 11, 262, 978 votes.

Consequently, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who is also the Chief Returning Officer for the Presidential Election said Mr Buhari would be presented with a Certificate of Return alongside his vice, Yemi Osinbajo.

“I, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu hereby certify that I was the Returning Officer for the Presidential Election held on the 23rd day of February, 2019. That the he action was contested; that the candidates received the following votes”

“That Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress APC having satisfied the requirements if the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared winner and is returned elected”.
