A mid night fire outbreak, recently gutted two shops and goods estimated at N1.5 million in Ahoada in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The inferno broke out at Omoku Road, opposite Steeple Gate Hotels, Ahoada and the cause was not clear as at press time.
Narrating his ordeal, a tailor in the area, Mr. Paul Zannu, who hails from Lagos State, said that he usually worked late in the night.
“ But I closed work earlier that fateful Monday night; at about 11:00 pm. When I heard a knock at my door, I opened, a neighbour informed me to rush to my workshop which is on fire.
But before I could arrive there, my whole shop has been consumed by the fire,” he stated.
Zannu’s wife collapsed on sighting the scene. A witness said, it took rescuers couple of hours before she was resuscitated.
When our correspondent visited the scene, many sympathizers were lamenting over the incident.
Ahoada police denied any knowledge of the fire incident when our correspondent contacted the D.P.O for comment.
