Suspected Fulani herdsmen have again struck at Mchia village in Logo local government area of Benue State, killing five people and injuring many others.

The suspected Fulani herdsmen were said to have stormed the village at about 9 p.m. on Sunday and started shooting sporadically in all direction.

Chairman of the local government area Richard Nyajo, who confirmed the report, said the shooting took place in a busy commercial area of the village while people were still out trading into the time.

“The herdsmen stormed the village at about 9 p.m. and opened fire on the people, most of whom were still out trading at the time. I can confirm to you that five persons were killed instantly, with several others sustaining serious injuries,” he said.

“After the attack, they withdrew through Arugu, a village close to Anyiin. A villager tracked their footsteps and discovered some bank ATM cards, which will be given as evidence to security personnel to investigate. They were 10 in number.”

The Chairman, who disclosed that remains of the deceased victims have been evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital, Anyii, where the injured were also being treated, said soldiers in the area went after the attackers.

Daily Sun gathered that the development has left many of the locals, who had just returned from IDP camps to commence this year’s planting season, leaving the area in droves for fear of being killed by the marauding herdsmen.
