Five persons including a police officer simply identified as DSP Godwin have been allegedly abducted by gunmen at Ubiaja, the administrative headquarters of Esan South East local government area of Edo state.
It was gathered that the victims were abducted on Wednesday on Benin-Asaba road by the gunmen.
It was further gathered that the police officer was travelling to Asaba when the gunmen apparently on the road for kidnapping stopped the vehicle he was travelling with and took them into the bush.
It was learnt that a yet-to-be-identified Pastor, who was travelled on the same road, was shot by gunmen and is now receiving treatment in an undiscloesed hospital.
Source said the police have mobilised officers who are combing the forest reserves around the Ewatto, Ubiaja, Okhuessan areas to rescue the officer and other kidnapped victims.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident, saying that the tactical team for the rescue operation will come out with good news soon.
