It was gathered that the Military High Command has been told to re-energise its intelligence networks in the Niger Delta region while a massive redeployment of operatives from the security agencies has been carried out.
The General Commanding Officer (GOC) the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, yesterday, said that the just concluded military exercise in the Niger Delta tagged “Crocodile Smile,” was aimed at stemming growing restiveness in the region.
He said four solders also got drowned in the general area of Brass in Bayelsa state due to a boat mishap, while another one was killed in action elsewhere around Obiozumini near Obite in Onelga, Rivers state in a fire-fight with the militants.
The Nigerian Army has described as “baseless” an allegation by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), that the former’s ongoing operation in the oil-rich region, was an alleged platform for”political patronage”.
