With the crisis rocking the APC, the presidency has felt the need to make some clarifications – A presidential spokesman, Bashir Ahmad, has pointed out that Bola Tinubu is not a member of the ruling party’s NEC – Ahmad, therefore, noted that Tinubu does not attend NEC meetings

Bashir Ahmad, the personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, has made some clarifications in connection to membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s National Executive Council (NEC). Ahmad on his Twitter page made it clear that the ruling party’s national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is not a member of the NEC and as such, he cannot attend the council’s meetings.

Meanwhile, reported that as the people of Edo and Ondo states prepare for the forthcoming governorship elections, the two major parties, the APC and the PDP, have been involved in political intrigues, especially regarding the choices of the flagbearers. In the ruling APC, the incumbent governors, Godwin Obaseki of Edo and Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, were interested in the second term while other forces in the party wanted other candidates. On Sunday, May 31, nine APC governors, including Obaseki and Akeredolu, met with Tinubu in Lagos. Their goal was to seek the support of the APC leader to prevail on the party leadership to give Obaseki and Akeredolu the right of first refusal.

Moreover, efforts towards the smooth run of elections were levelled-up as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) met with leaders of all political parties ahead of the polls in Edo and Ondo states. The virtual meeting was held on Monday, June 1, ahead of the gubernatorial elections in the two states scheduled for September 2020 by INEC.
