The Commander of Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig-Gen. Umar Musa, says the Brigade is restrategising with the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to combat what he describes as “incessant demonstrations” of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shi’ites.

Musa made this known on Wednesday at the 177 Guards Brigade, Keffi, Nasarawa State, where he commissioned four new projects. He said the Guards Brigade is working in synergy with the police in developing new strategies.

The commander noted that the activities of the IMN remains a cause for concern, but assured that in a few days time the “menace will be curbed”.

He said: “Abuja is peaceful, but one of the security threats we have been having is the activities of the IMN, they are a cause for concern. As I have said, it’s within the ambit of the police responsibility for now, but we have discussed with the police authority and we are restrategising on how to turn this menace of incessant demonstration.”

“Though they claim they are nonviolent, but their activities seem to be disturbing the residence of Abuja. We have strategized and I tell you that in a couple of days to come you will see changes in the strategies which we are going to use to tackle them.”

Further, Musa explained that the projects which includes; a Mini zoo, saluting Dias, children’s park and a car park is aimed at improving the condition of the barrack and give it a befitting outlook. He added that the establishment of the mini zoo is in line with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Yusuf Buratai, policy on park and zoo in the Nigerian Army barracks.

The Commander also informed that the children’s park, which was named after him will not only serve the barrack community but also neighbouring villages, while urging the community to make good use of the park.

One major highlight of the event was the public recognition of a 117 guards Brigade personnel, identified as Corporal Adamu Stephen who suffered a gunshot wound while repelling attack from armed militia in the state.

Musa while presenting Stephen with a motorcycle gift said he is being appreciated for his gallant performance. He added that the public recognition will also encourage others not to be deterred in fighting armed militia and bandits.

The event also featured colourful cultural display from some ethnic groups in the country.

The Commanding Officer 117 Guards Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Uba, appreciated the Commanding Officer and all invited guests for a successful commissioning.
