Two naval officers kidnapped  along Jaji-Kaduna express Road have narrowly escaped death from their abductors.

The Daily Sun reliably gathered that the naval officers Lt-Commander S. Ahmed, a Weapon Electrical and Electronics/ Special Boat Services(WEE/SBS), operative and Lieutenant-Commander Maigado, a pilot and personnel of the Air Warfare Wing (AWW), were kidnapped, on Saturday, at about 10, O’clock in the night.

Lieutenant-Commander Ahmed is currently a member of Senior Course 40 at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College(AFCSC), Jaji.

Lieutenant-Commander Maigado, was said to have travelled to the Armed Forces Command And Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, where he had gone to deliver lecture to Junior Course students of Maritime Warfare Department of the college.

He was reportedly accompanied on his way back to Kaduna, by Lt.-Comdr. Ahmed, when they were kidnapped.

Daily Sun gathered that the naval officers had run into a roadblock mounted by the kidnappers dressed in military camouflage about two kilometers after Marraba-Jos, Junction who quickly approached their vehicle and forced them out at gunpoint.

The kidnappers were said to have immediately dispossessed them of their wallets and mobile telephone handsets.

The kidnappers, totaling five, thereafter, reportedly marched the officers into a bush and trekked for about four hours and stopped to take a rest.

It was gathered that after the rest, the kidnappers took time to survey the area to ensure there were no security operatives with two of its armed men in front while the remaining three kept watch over the officers.

While this was going on, it was gathered that one of the officers pretended to have stepped on a thorn as he was barefooted.

In the process of trying to remove the thorn from his feet, the officer kicked one of the kidnappers on the head. The kidnapper then fell over a ridge while they took to their heel.

A source who does not want to be mentioned in print told Daily Sun that, “The kidnappers pursued them. As the officers got close to a hamlet they (naval officers) began to shout, calling out people to help. When people began to respond, the kidnappers turned and scampered away in the opposite direction.

“The officers continued walking until they got to a small community near a major road at about 0030hours.

“With the help of the people of this community, the officers contacted one Lieutenant-Commander S.M. Jibia, a student at AFCSC Jaji who, in turn, informed a member of Directing Staff. Shortly after, troops from 4 Demonstrations Battalion were immediately mobilised to evacuate the officers.

“Also, the vehicle was recovered from the police at about 0100. Lt Cdr S Ahmed is currently in AFCSC Jaji while Lt Cdr AI Maigado arrived Lagos at about 0850 this morning to resume Flying Duties.

“The  officers are mentally and physically stable,” the source said.

When contacted on the matter the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Jimoh Moshood, did not pick his call, while the Director Naval Information could not be reached as his mobile telephone number did not connect.
