The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 20 policemen for alleged various offences ranging from extortion to other professional misconducts.
Also arrested were eight other suspects for alleged murder, armed robbery, kidnapping and rape.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, who at a press conference yesterday, said the arrested policemen would face disciplinary action, added that they were nabbed in different locations of the state, in response to the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, to sanitise the force and weed out bad eggs.
Among the other suspects was an accomplice to the murder of a Bureau de Change operator in Lekki-Ajah area of the state.
The CP said the command also foiled an attempt to kidnap an Indian national, Ajay Bisit, at a construction site in Ajah, while it also recovered four different types of automatic rifles and five exotic cars.
Reacting to the fracas that erupted on Wednesday between Hausa and Fulani communities in the Abattoir area of Agege, the police boss said normalcy has returned.
“I have met with the leaders of the Hausa and Fulani, and I have also met with leaders of the Igbo and Hausa community in Ketu area.
“I urge all ethnic groups in the state to maintain peace and enjoy the Sallah holiday as the police would not accept any act of public disturbance during and after the holiday.”
