At least 62 houses were damaged after an attack by suspected militants on a village in the Far North region of Cameroon, L’Oeil du Sahel reported in its online edition.
The attack occurred on Tuesday evening at the village of Wawouli, near Kolofata, the newspaper said, without saying where it got the information.
“We cannot confirm how many homes were razed,’’ District Officer Umaru Sarki said by phone. “No one was injured in the attack as the villagers had mostly deserted the village and the few that were left fled as soon as the attackers began shooting in the air.”
The attack came after Nigerian and Cameroonian troops killed 20 Islamist militants in raids along their border.
