Two suspected car vandals – Kwesi Godwin and Michael Omotayo – have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command on the Victoria Island of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Godwin, a 22-year-old Ghanaian, and Omotayo, 29, – were captured by a Closed Circuit Television Camera before they were arrested and taken to the Maroko Police Division on Thursday.
It was gathered that the duo allegedly broke into a Toyota Highlander parked on Aboyade Cole Street at about 10pm last Wednesday and stole valuables from the vehicle.
A police source said the owner of the vehicle, identified only as Rasheed, had reported to the police, who got the faces of the suspects from the CCTV installed on a building on the street.
He said, “The suspects did not know that a CCTV on the street had captured their faces. They were arrested the following day.”
Kwesi said he learnt breaking into cars in 2001.
He said, “I was seven years old then. At a point, I left home and met Michael (Omotayo) at a work site. We had been ‘striking’ together.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said, “They have confessed to the crime and will be charged to court soon.”
