The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the gruesome murder of a yet to be known man and a woman, Mrs. Eunice Olawale, known for early morning preaching in Kubwa, a suburb in the nation’s capital, even as six suspects have being arrested in connection with the murder.
While the body of the man was found last Thursday morning, when Muslim faithful were celebrating Sallah, the woman’s lifeless body was found in the early hours of Saturday in the pool of her blood, about 50 metres away from where the body of the man was dumped two days earlier, which is close to a mosque on the street.
The Guardian gathered that the man was beaten to dead by a group of young men, one of whom was identified to be a member of the vigilance group on Wednesday night. His body was found on the street behind Railway pipeline, off Court of Appeal junction, from Byazhin Junction in main Kubwa village.
Spokesman of the FCT Police Command, Anjuguri Manza, confirmed the two incidents, adding that they have commenced investigation and arrested six suspects in connection with the murder of the woman.
He further noted in a statement issued yesterday that the FCT Commissioner of Police, Alkali Usman, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) to lead a discreet investigation into the murder of the woman.
“The six suspects arrested in connection with the gruesome murder are in police custody and are currently undergoing interrogation, the outcome of which we promise, would be made public.”
While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the CP enjoined members of the public to contact the police in case of emergency and also give information of criminal activities happening in their area to the nearest police station.
Said to be a Deaconess at the Divine Touch Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Old NEPA Road, Phase 4, Kubwa, Olawale was said to have been cut in the neck and also stabbed in the stomach. She was known to be consistent with her ‘morning cry’ evangelism routine, until she met her death.
An eyewitness, who is also one of the vigilance leaders on the street, told The Guardian that the two deaths have shocked the entire neighbourhood, as “these have never happened before.
“Of course, in every community, there are incidences of crime, but not to this extent. We hear her preaching every morning for a long time now. It is really sad this has happened to her on her own street,” he said.
When The Guardian visited the scene of the incident, it was gathered that the police had instructed residents to remove all shacks and all forms of obstacles near the road, as these must have been used by the assailants to ambush the preacher.
A woman selling firewood by the bumpy road, less than 50 metres from where the woman was murdered said she actually knew the woman, “because I pass here too in the morning and I see her very often.”
Meanwhile, little is said of the case of the murdered man, although the identified suspect is on the run. The police had since Thursday taken into custody the younger sister of the suspect for interrogation.
