Authorities of the Bayelsa Police Command led by Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi has inaugurated the Eminent Persons Forum, EPF, to assist the Police in solving the problems of crime, facilitate peaceful resolution of conflicts in communities, as well as enhance police accountability and support police operational needs.
Ogujemilusi, who stated this on Thursday while inaugurating the forum at the Chief DSP Alamieyesiegha Memorial Banquet Hall, Yenagoa, said the forum was the brain child of IGP Ibrahim Idris, who directed that it should be inaugurated in every Command.
The CP, while soliciting the support of the state government and other stakeholders for a befitting state police headquarters, lamented that the most pressing problems of the Command was inadequate accommodation for officers of the command including the CP, and issues of fueling the gun boats.
He said: “The Eminent Persons Forum is a body of individuals carefully selected to partner with the police to solve the problems of crime and facilitate peaceful resolution of conflicts in communities, as well as enhance police accountability and support police operational needs.
“Lack of adequate fund and logistics particularly accommodation have been the bane of effective policing and this is more pronounced in Bayelsa state where huge resources are required to police our waterways. The forum is intended to serve as a platform where the good people of Bayelsa state could support the Police to meet our funding and numerous logistics needs.”
In his remarks, Governor Seriake Dickson, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Bayelsa State Government on Security, Mr. Boma Spero-Jack, described security as a collective responsibility charged the forum to contribute their quota in the maintenance of law and order and called for synergy from stakeholders in tackling security challenges and described security as a collective responsibility.
On a befitting State Police Headquarters, he disclosed that the state government has already allocated land for the project and assured that something was been done to kick start the project and called for support from corporate organizations and groups to make the project a reality.
