Ado-Ekiti—A teacher in one of the secondary schools in Ekiti State, identified as Mr. Festus Olatunde Oke, was reportedly kidnapped on Monday along Ise-Ikere Road, while returning from work and led into the forest.
It was also gathered that Oke had visited Ado-Ekiti from his station and was returning with his wife and mother, when the kidnappers intercepted them, dragged him out of the car and disappeared with him into the forest.
Oke’s wife and his mother were abandoned in his Toyota Camry car, while their phones were taken away from them by the abductors.
Sources at the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, in the state explained that the news got to the secretariat of the union on Tuesday and that the union had swung into action.
The state Secretary of NUT, Mr. Olugbenga Ajibade, confirmed the development, saying the Emure council Wing of the NUT had confirmed that Mr. Oke was missing.
According to Ajibade, “we also got the news on Tuesday and we learned that his Toyota Camry car was not taken away.”
Ekiti State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, while confirming the incident, said the report had been brought to the police.
Adeyemi said: “The report has been brought to us and we are investigating. Action is being taken for the safe release of the kidnapped victim.”
