A shocking North Korean video shows a nuclear bomb appearing to strike an American city, before a huge fiery mushroom cloud soars into the sky.

The propaganda video, released by the state, includes frames of the American flag overlapped with an image of a cemetery.

The World War III simulation, featuring the Korean State Merited Chorus, was released as tensions continued to rise between Kim Jong-un’s communist republic and the United States of America.

The bomb shown in the video is believed to be an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile.

A new song released by the choir centres around the country’s missiles and includes lyrics such as ‘our proud Hwasong rocket blasts off’ and ‘it flies as quickly as a flash of lightening to challenge imperialism,’ The Mirror reports.

Official sources from South Korea and the US confirmed North Korea had attempted to launch a missile on Sunday, but had failed.

The launch attempt followed celebrations for the ‘Day of the Sun’ festival, which marked the birthday of the nation’s founder and Kim’s late grandfather, Kim Il-Sung.
