ASABA—DELTA State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, relocated from Asaba, the state capital, to Warri, yesterday, to keep an eye on the Delta State House of Assembly, bye-election in Warri South constituency scheduled for tomorrow.
The CP confirmed to Vanguard, yesterday: “I will relocate from Asaba to Warri for Wednesday’s House of Assembly bye-election.”
The bye-election is necessitated by the vacuum created by the demise of the member representing Warri South in the state Houe of Asembly, the late Omawunmi Udoh.
Ibrahim said: “The command is working round the clock and is being guided by time tested principles of objectivity, neutrality and transparency in its quest to ensure a hitch-free, peaceful, orderly and credible election.
“We call on all and sundry, especially, politicians and youths, to desist from acts such as fighting, thuggery and ballot snatching, capable of casting doubts on the integrity of the election and the electoral process. I wish to reassure you all that officers and men of the command have been adequately mobilized towards ensuring that the state continues to enjoy greater peace and security,” he said.
It will be recalled that at an inter-agency consultative committee meeting on security for the bye-election, last week, it was agreed that trouble makers with intent to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the election should be identified and placed on surveillance, while restriction should be placed on boats and motor cycles not engaged in the conduct of the election.
Stakeholders declared their preparedness for a free and fair bye-election with firm assurance that adequate manpower will be deployed to secure Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC staff, sensitive and non sensitive materials, voters, the polling units, RACs and the other identified flash points.
