A first year student of the Imo State University, Owerri, identified as Nkechi Onwumelu, was on Monday injured by hoodlums suspected to be cult members.
An eyewitness, Chidi Onyeji, an undergraduate of the institution, told our correspondent that Onwumelu, who was returning to the school after the Easter break, was attacked on the walkway near the school’s main gate by the cult members.
He said, “The first year female student was returning from her home town, Umugakwo-Eziama, in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State when she was attacked. The cult members made away with her bag containing cash, West African Secondary School Certificate Examinations results, receipts, medical report, mobile phone and other materials.”
Our correspondent learnt that the fleeing cult members, who operated with guns, also injured their victim.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the matter had been reported at the Orji Police Division, near the university.
When contacted, the IMSU Public Relations Officer, Obi Njoku, said he could not comment until on Tuesday.
The state police spokesperson, Andrew Enwerem, could not be reached as of press time.
