ABUJA—TROOPS of 120 Task Force Battalion, 27 Task Force Brigade, Tuesday, intercepted 30 fleeing family members of suspected Boko Haram terrorists at Goniri, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State.

Similarly, troops of 251 Battalion, 7 Division Nigerian Army, Operation Lafiya Dole, deployed at Dala village, Tuesday, intercepted a suspected suicide bomber, who attempted to cross through their forward defences.

The Army authorities, in a statement yesterday through its spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman, said the suspects comprise of eight women and 22 children.

It said: “On preliminary interrogation, the suspects claimed to have escaped from Boko Haram terrorists’ custody at Kafa and Abagajiri villages in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

“Also, on Tuesday, at about 2.30p.m., the troops also intercepted seven women and children escaping from Boko Haram terrorists at Kamuya, Yobe State.

“They claimed that they escaped from the terrorists’ hideout at Goropcha village, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State. Both sets of escapees are currently being screened and profiled by the Brigade.”

On the intercept at Dala village, Tuesday, at about 10p.m., the statement said: “After several challenges and warning shots, the suspect refused to halt. The suspect, who still continued to approach towards the troops’ location, was immediately neutralised.”
