ABUJA—THE Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt-General Tukur Buratai, yesterday, approved special promotion of 6,199 soldiers serving in Operation Lafiya Dole.
The beneficiaries are part of the military troops battling Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.
The beneficiaries, according to a statement, by Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Sani Usman, cut across various ranks between Lance Corporals and Warrant Officers in the Nigerian Army.
A breakdown of the beneficiaries of the special promotion shows that soldiers promoted from the rank of Staff Sergeants to Warrant Officers were 329.
Also, those promoted from the rank of Sergeants to Staff Sergeants were 371 just as the number of beneficiaries on the rank of Corporals to Sergeants were 707.
In similar circumstance, Lance Corporals promoted to Corporals were 1,290 just as Privates promoted to Lance Corporals were 3,502.
The statement quoted the Chief of Army Staff as congratulating the beneficiaries, even as he urged them to increase the tempo of the ongoing clearance operations of the Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East.
