Lawal had arrived at the Abuja office of the EFCC around 11 am on Wednesday after which he was detained.

Responding when contacted, the acting Spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Samin Amaddin, confirmed Lawal’s arrest.

Buhari had in April last year suspended Lawal alongside the country’s ex-foreign intelligence chief, Amb. Ayo Oke, for various corruption allegations.

The President had in a statement by his Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity), Mr. Femi Adesina, ordered an investigation into the allegations of violations of law and due process made against Lawal  in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

“The President has also directed the suspension of the SGF from office pending the outcome of the investigations,” he stated.
