The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested two suspected members of a secret cult, the Aiye Confraternity, at Okesuna, Lagos Island, allegedly while they were on their way for a criminal operation along the Island waterfront.

The police described the suspects, Adeyemi Olanrewaju and Lukman Seun, both 25 years old, as a top marksman and an armourer respectively in the confraternity.

Daily Trust gathered that the police apprehended five members of the cult group going for the criminal operation but were able to arrest only Olanrewaju and Seun, while the other three men escaped with bullet wounds.

A pistol and two live cartridges were said to have been recovered from the suspects.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, told Eko Trust on phone yesterday that the suspects were arrested on July 24, 2020.

Elkana said that the police had received information at about 4.30pm that a group of boys had been sighted at the Okesuna area of Lagos Island brandishing arms.

He said that police operatives, working on the information, swiftly mobilised to the scene and arrested two of the suspects, while others escaped.

“The suspects have confessed to be members of the Aiye confraternity. They said they bought the gun recovered from them from one Raimi, now late, for N25,000 for cult activities.

“It was revealed that the suspects were preparing to fight a rival cult group in Lagos Island when they were arrested,” Elkana added.
