Gunmen have attacked Tungar Maje village of Gwagwalada Local Government Area in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Wednesday, September 9, 2020.
The people of the village that came under attack told the BBC Hausa Service that the gunmen abducted six of their kinsmen.
The attack, according to one of the villagers Adamu Tanko, was carried out around midnight.
He said the gunmen had an encounter with police and vigilante officers during which seven of the 12 people they initially abducted were rescued.
Abuja faces security threats according to the Nigerian Customs Service after the agency claimed it received intelligence that terrorists are operating around the capital.
The circular claimed that Boko Haram terrorists were planning to attack selected targets and have already set up camps in some forests.
“They are reported to have set up their camps in the following identified enclaves; Kunyam bush along airport road off DIA staff quarters – Abuja, Robochi/Gwagwalada forest, Kwaku Forest Kuje – Abuja, Unaisha Forest in Toto Local Government of Nasarawa State, Gegu Close To Idu Town in Kogi,” the document reads.
“Consequently, you are to be on alert and security conscious of your environment at all times,” it concluded.
Terrorists have also returned to the Abuja-Kaduna Highway where daily reports of kidnappings are coming.
On Friday, September 4, a source told HumAngle that the terrorists blocked the highway around 1:00 pm in the noon and took many motorists away.
On Monday, September 7, other sources said a bus driver was shot by the terrorists when he tried to run away, and many passengers were kidnapped at around 5:00 pm on the highway.
