The Kano State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private schools in the state.
Making the announcement on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru, asked parents and guardians to pick up their children from the state’s boarding schools.
“Parents whose children are in boarding schools are to also arrange and convey their children/wards back home from Wednesday, December 16, 2020. All inconveniences are regretted,” the commissioner said.
Kano is the third state to announce the closure of schools following the abduction of over 300 students from their school by terrorists in Kankara, Katsina State.
The state had recorded a number of kidnappings and terror attacks, especially in the Bebeji Local Government Area that almost shares boundaries with the troubled Kaduna State.
However, Kano did not give an official reason for the directive, which came three days to the end of the third term as all schools in the state are expected to officially close on Friday, December 18.
Kano’s government had also expressed concerns over the sudden upsurge in COVID-19 cases in the state, where 85 persons recently tested positive within 10 days.
