Rebels of the Retour, Reclamation et Rehabilitation movement of the Central African Republic have abducted three Cameroonian gendarmes, HumAngle has learnt.
The three gendarmes who were on a mission to reinforce the security at the frontier with the Central African Republic in Adamaoua region were taken hostage by the rebels of self-proclaimed General Abbas Sidiki.
According to security forces in Adamaoua, the three gendarmes are being held in Ngaoui, a village situated at the border with the Central African Republic.
“The 3R rebels are demanding the sum of 15 million FCFA as a ransom for the freedom of each gendarme making a total of 45 million FCFA ($90,000) for the freedom of the three gendarmes,” revealed a reliable security source.
“The rebels say immediately the money is paid, the three gendarmes would be released but without their arms and their service vehicle which was also seized when the gendarmes were abducted.”
The gendarmerie hierarchy has been silent since the abduction of their elements but sources at the Adamaoua regional gendarmerie say everything is being done to ensure the safe release of the three gendarmes.
It is not known whether the families of the said gendarmes have been informed but the fact that the gendarmerie hierarchy is silent about the names of the abducted elements is an indication that the families are yet to be informed of the unfortunate incident.
