Uyo—THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Akwa Ibom State, yesterday, disclosed that it still has in its possession, about 21,651 unclaimed Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, from the last voter registration exercise.

State Administrative Secretary, Mr. Owhor Nathan, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the commencement of the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting held at INEC state headquarters on Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, the state capital.
Nathan urged those who participated in the last registration exercise but yet to collect their PVCs to visit INEC offices across the state to collect theirs, urging both eligible voters yet to get registered and those who have just turned 18 years to take advantage of the fresh registration exercise in order to perform their civic responsibility in the 2019 election.
He said: “For citizens to be eligible for this fresh registration, they must reside, work in or originate from the registration area covered by the registration centre they intend to register in. They must not be subjected to legal incapacity to vote under any law, rule or regulation in force in Nigeria. They must present themselves to the CVR officers for registration and be able to provide proof of identity, age and nationality if requested.”
Also the National Commissioner supervising the South-South zone, Mr. Mohammed Lecky, warned that eligible voters participating in the fresh exercise were expected to register in person as no registration would be allowed by proxy.
Lecky who spoke through the Administrative Secretary, also warned against multiple registrations, saying that anyone caught in the act so would be made to face the wrath of the law.
