Bauchi—Nine persons have been confirmed dead with three others sustaining various degrees of injuries in an auto crash along Azare-Bulkachuwa Road in Bauchi State on Sunday.
According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed, the accident involved only a commercial bus with number plates FKA-328 XA.
The statement said that the accident happened when the driver of the vehicle, one Garba Mohammed, aged 25, an indigene of Ndiski ward in Potiskum, Yobe State, lost control as a result of over-speeding. The car somersaulted before crashing into the bush.
He added: “The rear tyre of the vehicle burst and the bus somersaulted because of over-speeding. Police patrol team attached to Azare Division visited the scene of the crash and conveyed both the dead and injured victims to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, where nine persons, including the driver, were certified dead on arrival.”
Mohammed said the corpses have been deposited in the mortuary as the police are making efforts to identify the relatives of the victims.
Meanwhile, a motorcycle rider was also crushed to death in an accident on Bauchi-Jos Road, near the Vehicle Inspection Office, VIO’s premises.
The accident involved a Honda vehicle with number plates GME-762-HP, driven by one I. D. Ekpo attached to 301Brigade Gombe and a maroon-coloured motorcycle with number plates FNN 355Q-AN.
Police attached to the GRA Division visited the scene of the crash and conveyed the victims to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Hospital, Bauchi, where the motorcycle rider was confirmed dead on arrival, while the female passenger sustained injuries.
