Five persons suspected to have kidnapped two expatriate workers in Akwa Ibom have been arrested by the police.

The suspects, were arrested in Calabar, Cross River State where their victims were hidden.

Police Commissioner, Mr. Don Awunah told newsmen at a press briefing in Uyo on Friday that, the expatriates were successfully rescued by the police following intelligence reports and the cooperation of members of the public.

He said, during the raid, one Toyota Hiace bus and eight other vehicles were also recovered from the kidnappers but, did not disclose whether ransom was paid to free the expatriates.

Nigerian Police

Recall that the kidnappers had earlier asked for N100million and later N200 million ransom at various times before they could release their victims.

The two expatriates work with VKS construction Nigeria Limited in Onna Local Government Area of the state.

Also,  Dr. Idongesit Udom, a proprietor of Sure Foundation Polytechnic who was kidnapped almost the same day in another part of the state, Ukanafun Local Government Area is yet to regain freedom.

Dr. Udom was abducted by unknown gunmen on his way to Church in his Village, Idung Nneke on April 7, 2017.

Mr Awunah enjoined members of the public to continue to cooperate with the police by reporting criminal elements in their midst for prompt action.
