The Bayelsa State government has declared November 2 a public holiday to mark the state’s Thanksgiving Day, saying it is a time to honour God for the socio-economic and political challenges faced recently by the state.
According to the statement issued yesterday by the state Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, though the state has overcame the various challenges, there is the need to appreciate God for His mercies, kindness and faithfulness in the life of the people of the state.
According to Obuebite, “The Lord has been merciful, kind and faithful to Bayelsa and the need to appreciate him with thanksgiving cannot be overemphasized. There is the need to thank God following the numerous challenges it has overcome in the last one year.
“God has been merciful, kind and faithful to Bayelsa and the need to appreciate him with thanksgiving cannot be overemphasized. Thus, keeping faith with the law signed by His Excellency Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, declaring November 2nd as annual thanksgiving.”
He noted that for successfully going through the last governorship election, the dual victory at the election petition tribunal and the appeal court, and for keeping the state afloat in the current economic recession, the thanksgiving is necessary. “It is obvious that the hand of God is on the state and enjoined everyone who believes in the almighty to come out and thank him irrespective of all political differences and affiliations.
we must all come together and worship God for holding and keeping the state together through thick, thin and trying times recently faced.”
According to the Information and Orientation Commissioner, the 2016 annual thanksgiving will hold by 12 noon at the Ecumenical Center at Igbogene and will feature high praise and worship, prayers for the state as well as other ministrations.
“God is going to do more for the state after appreciating him with a thankful heart and once again urged Bayelsans to keep faith with this Restoration Government as things will surely get better.”
