The South-South Civil Right Congress has described as a declaration of war, the statements made by prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who were in the State on Thursday to drum support for the candidates of the APC, in the Saturday legislative rerun elections in the State.
The group in a statement signed by its coordinator, Comrade Atani Joshua, condemned what it termed as a declaration of war against the peace loving people of Rivers just because of the desperation of the APC to win the election.
It wonder the manner of message that APC leaders such as Chief John Oyegun and Governor Ganduje of Kano were passing to the people, particularly the youth, by encouraging them to take up arms during an ordinary civil exercise like the election.
“We see the show of shame called the APC Rally in Port Harcourt today, as a signpost to the original plan of the APC to instigate violence in order to prepare grounds for the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers” the statement read.
It therefore called on all its members to immediately mobilise not only to defend the right of the people of Rivers to elect candidates of their choice, but to also defend them against the territorial invasion by “elements like John Oyegun and his Fulani collaborators such as Governor Ganduje”.
“We want to assure the APC leadership, that the peoples army in Rivers and the South south is fully prepared to resist their planned invasion of our land, with every available legitimate means” the statement concluded.
