ENUGU—A final year student of the Department of Political Science, in one of the South-Eastern universities, one Joseph Emmanuel, has been reportedly murdered by suspected cultists at his off campus accommodation.
The victim, it was gathered, was in company of his friends when the suspected cultists, numbering about three, armed with guns and machetes, stormed his home.
He was allegedly beaten and given several machete cuts before they shot him twice in the head. An unidentified friend of the deceased, who was with him, was said to have escaped with severe injuries.

Emmanuel was immediately taken to a medical centre and later transferred to Bishop Shanahan Hospital in Nsukka, where he was confirmed dead.
A friend of the deceased, who pleaded anonymity, described the incident as unfortunate, adding that the deceased was the one who introduced him to the Ponzi scheme, MMM.
He said: “It is quite sad. I have known him for quite some time now. In fact, he was the one that even introduced me to MMM. I do not know what could have led to this.”
When asked about the personality and character of the deceased, he said he was social but lived a lavish lifestyle.
Another resident in the area, who simply gave his name as Mark, said the murder could be a retaliatory attack by rival cultists.
He said: “Last Sunday, they shot somebody at that gate over there (pointing). This may be a revenge mission.”
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations and a manhunt for the suspects have begun.
