ExxonMobil, reputed to be one of the most prized companies in the world has its Lagos office shut down by its workers who are protesting attempts by the company to release over 100 Nigerian workers.
An insider disclosed that the office was closed down as a result of a “dispute between the employees union — Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) — and Mobil management on initiating an arbitrary sack of Nigerian employees without conclusive negotiations.
Further reports state that the protest if not well addressed could extend to the company’s oil facilities if the sack goes on
arbitrarily.
A short statement handed out by PENGASSAN to its members, revealed
that the protest, which commenced on Wednesday, was to continue yesterday with increased tempo.
Excerpt from the statement said, “The plan is to withdraw our services totally from all our operating locations by midday tomorrow (15 Dec)”.
“The secretariat will keep you informed and updated as we arrive at that threshold. Injury to one is an injury to all!” As of yesterday, ExxonMobil was yet to give any official statement on the claims of random sack it is being accused of by members of its staff.
