The Ogun State Government has arrested a fake medical doctor, Mr. Sunday Adeyeye, in possession of a forged Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria certificate.
The Director, Hospital Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Sola Adebiyi, who made the disclosure yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital, said the suspect was arrested when he came with the owner of his hospital to the ministry to re-validate and register his hospital.
According to Adebiyi, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, had few months ago directed that all private health facilities in the state be re-validated and register, following the incessant death of innocent citizens in the hands of quacks doctors.
She said the owner of the facility, who engaged the fake doctor unknowingly, brought him to the ministry for the revalidation of his facility, adding that going through the ABU certificate he presented, it was discovered that he has been practising with forged certificate bearing his name.
“We were suspicious when the owner of Ganny-Hash clinic and Maternity Hospital in Ifo, Mr. Ganiyu Okewole, presented the said fake Dr. Sunday Adeyeye’s certificate for revalidation of his facility and we ask him to bring the doctor in person, which is one of our requirement for the exercise.
“When we went through the ABU certificate he (suspect) presented and compared it with the ministry’s records, we discovered that he has been practising with a forged certificate and we immediately called in the Police to effect his arrest,” Adebiyi added.
Responding to questions from journalists, the suspect said he was not a doctor and the ABU certificate was forged in his name in Zaria, adding that he had been working with the hospital since February this year.
