The police have arrested seven suspected cultists at Kuduru Village in the Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory during a violent clash over a girl.
One locally-made revolver pistol and one live ammunition belonging to one of the arrested suspects, Ridwan Olaitan, were recovered at the scene.
The suspects were arrested by police operatives attached to Bwari Division on April 22, 2017 at about 3pm while responding to a distress call that two rival cult groups were involved in a violent clash.
A statement on Tuesday in Abuja by the FCT police spokesman, Manzah Anjuguri, gave the names of the suspects as Olaitan, 22; Abdulganiyu Sodiqu, 24; Hassan Ayo, 28; Moses Dominic, 20; Abdulhameedu Ali, 21; Eze Chibuike, 23; and Franklin Ugorji, 23 years, all of Kuduru village.
The Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, urged parents, guardians and religious leaders to provide sound moral and spiritual guidance for youths “whose future is seriously being threatened by the ugly menace of cultism.”
The CP, who noted that the involvement of the youths in cult activities constituted a serious security threat to the society, advised youths to focus more on their education and shun any act that could truncate their future.
The suspects have been transferred to the Command Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation.
