The Commander, 1 Brigade Nigeria Army, Sokoto, Brigadier General, Ginikanwa Nwosu yesterday assured that the fight against illicit drug seller, hoarding and consumption in the Seat of the Caliphate remained a continues one for the command.

Gen. Nwosu who decried that the ban on sales of illicit drug within the Barack’s mammy market was a necessity because it is illegal, further averred that he cannot pretend or keep quite and see illegality going on within the Barracks because of whatever gain.

Speaking on Tuesday when he paid a courtesy call on the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Sokoto State Chapter,  the Brigade Commander, Ginikanwa noted that despite the relatively peaceful nature of the region, there are pockets of criminality ranging from kidnapping, armed banditry, cattle rustling amongst others.

While expressing the Command readiness to effectively tackle any security challenge within the zone, (Sokoto/Kebbi and Zamfara) States, the Brigade Commander divulged that, they recover over 500 livestock weekly from cattle rustlers within Zamfara state axis.

He noted further that, the Command  will be releasing about 300 of such recovered livestock to Zamfara state for owners to identify and reclaim them

Talking on Army/Civilian relationship, the Brigade Commander warned Army against molestation of civilians. Even as he advised that, there are ways of addressing misunderstandings amicably.

Recalled that, shortly after taking over as the Brigade Commander, 1 Brigade, Nigeria Army, Sokoto, Brig. General Ginikanwa took the bull by the horn and announced an immediate ban on the sale of illicit drugs and other illegal substances at the mammy Market of the sokoto army Barracks.

The Brigade Commander, equally closed all shops dealing in such subtances from the mammy market.

The ban was announced in a statement by Umar Shuaib, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations on Saturday.The statement said the action followed a directive by the Commander, 1 Brigade, Sokoto, Ginikawa Nwosu.The statement said all shops dealing in such substances at the market had also been closed immediately.

“This is in line with his commitment towards ensuring sanity in the market and the entire barracks community.“The commander is hereby assuring the Sokoto State Government, Sultanate Council and the entire people of the state that no stone will be left unturned in restoring the values and traditions of the Seat of the Caliphate.“Also, this move is in cognisance of the ethos and values of the Nigerian Army.
