Friday Amobi, Port Harcourt
Suspected cult members killed no fewer than four persons in River State on Sunday following fresh cult clashes that erupted in some communities of the state.
It was learned that one Nna Assor was killed and beheaded in Omudioga community, in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
This was coming after five people were killed in the same community last week Wednesday following a cult war in the area.
As the community was on the verge of resettling, some cult members, believed to be of the Icelander gang, invaded the community on Sunday and beheaded Assor.
Confirming the development, the Omudioga Youth President, Chinyere Amadi, stated that Assor, who was suspected to be a member of the Deygbam cult was murdered by Icelander members.
Amadi said, “Residents of the community are now living in fear, wondering how the hoodlums carried out the act even when there is security presence in the community.
In a related development, two people were killed in a cult violence in Omademe Community in the Ikwerre LGA during clashes between Icelanders and rival Deygbam cult.
A resident, who identified himself as Chuks, said trouble started after members of the two cults could not agree on which group won the clashes in neighbouring Omudioga community.
The member representing Ikwerre Constituency at the Rivers State House of Assembly Mr. Azubuike Wanjoku, condemned the resurgence of cult violence in the area.
Wanjoku said, “Security operatives must redouble their efforts to curb criminal activities in the state.”
Also, rampaging youths on Sunday killed one Anele Ikezam and burnt down several houses in Ozuoba community in the Obio/Akpor LGA.
It was gathered Ikeza, was attacked by members of rival cult who had stormed Ozuoba community.
The elder sister of the victim, who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity, said suspected Deygbam cult members ambushed her younger brother and hacked him to death.
The Public Relations Officer of Rivers State Police Command, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident, stating that police had been deployed in the affected communities.
Omoni said the police were aware of the incident in Omudioga and Ozuoba and that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Zaki, had visited Omudioga.
