The Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has paid a condolence visit to the Army Headquarters, with a plea for mercy over the murder of the immediate past Chief of Administration, Maj-Gen. Idris Alkali (rtd).
Alkali was reportedly killed in Dara-du, Jos South Local Government Area (LGA) of the state and his remains was dug out of an abandoned on October 31, a month after he was declared missing.
Lalong in his meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, in Abuja on Monday, appealed to the Nigerian Army not to get discouraged with the ugly incidence that took place in Plateau state, while describing it as an unusual incidence.
“This visit is unusual to us because it is happening at an unusual moment, and it is a sad moment for us. On behalf of the government of plateau state accept our condolence,” he said.
The Governor added that the Nigerian Army has done her best in restoring peace in Plateau State.
Buratai while responding, stated that security is quite fundamental and is one of the purposes of the governors as chief security officers of their states, and that without security many things will go wrong.
He also advised the government of Plateau state to ensure they take decisive action against lawlessness in the state, while ensuring that those arrested in the killing of Alkali are prosecuted and brought to justice.
The COAS however, challenged leaders to always come open and condemn every criminality in any part of Nigeria, noting that their silence is bad.
