Another round of armed men allegedly to be herdsmen have again attacked Galwyi community, in Chikun Local Government Area, LGA of Kaduna State, killing two and taken with them about 100 cattle.

Sources, said the gunmen numbering about 20 invaded the community on Sunday night, injuring scores of persons.

According go the source, the gunmen stormed the village firing to scare stiff the residents, but were resisted by a the village vigilante who also put up a fight.

According to a resident of the community, “As soon as they came close, our vigilante were alerted by the presence through the barking our dogs.”

“They lay ambush to them. But as soon as they got close to the village they started shooting into the air. They had heavy weapons. But, our vigilante responded. While, they were taking them on, some of the bandits were busy rounding out our cattle.

“The attackers came from three directions. We only face them on one side and they were more in number than us and had better weapons. By the time they were gone, Sunday Garba, 23 and Inua Gaube, 27, married with two children were killed. Five of our boys were wounded, but only two were critically wounded and are taking treatment in a hospital inside town.

“They left with no less than 100 cows. The police from Gwagwada outpost arrived soon after we called for help. They chased them into the night, but had to retreat later. We killed one of them, but the fled with his corpse. They left his shoes and guard containing water. You could see the blood stain where he was shot,” he said.

He said that yesterday, the bandits had called on some persons in Kawure, Guidna and Zhedna, all neighbours of Galwyi, warning that the next attacks would be lauched there.

When contacted for confirmation, Kaduna state Police Spokesman, ASP Usman Aliyu, said he was in Godogodo with the State Police Commissioner to ascertain the extend of the violence that was unleashed on the Southern Kaduna community.

“I have been briefed. But as soon as I get back and the details made available to me, I shall let you know,” he said.
