The Hausa community this morning, Tuesday the 23rd of June 2020, as barricading the ever-busy East-West road and lighting born fires. The barricade followed an attempt by a joint task force of the Nigerian Police, the Army, Federal Road Safety and personnel of Ahoada East LGA, to evict the Hausa community from the land.
The land which is opposite Ahoada Industrial Park, before the Sombrairo River bridge along the East-West Road had earlier been served notice on the Hausa community by the Ahoada East council to vacate the land which it claimed was government land, but the Hausa community countered with the claim that the land had been sold to them by the owners.
The altercation affected the free flow of traffic as the protesting Hausa’s turned back motorists.
The combined security task force in over 12 Hilux Pick up trucks, could not dislodge the protesters.
An earlier attempt by the Council chairman, Barr. Ben Eke, to evict them was resisted with the Hausas attacking and chasing away the Council officials as well as blocking the East-West Road for hours. The Hausa community this morning, Tuesday the 23rd of June 2020, as barricading the ever-busy East-West road and lighting born fires.
