Details of how the immediate past Minister of environment, Mrs. Laurentia Laraba Mallam and her 73 year-old husband, Mr Pius Mallam emerged yesterday.

Mrs. Mallam was appointed Minister in Marsh 2014 by for former President Goodluck Jonathan.

A source told our correspondent that the kidnappers had storm the road, robbing motorists along for nearly one hour before taken away the former Minister and her husband.

LEADERSHIP further gathered that attempt by her driver to escape the kidnapers failed, as the gunmen kept firing at their car until they got him shot at his left hand.

“It was at that point the gunmen came, and asked the former Minister and her husband to come out of the Car and followed them at gun point”, said our source.

Confirming the abduction to LEADERSHIP, the former aide of the Minister, Mr. Jonathan Asake said the former Minister and her husband were kidnapped at gun point in Jere area of Kagarko local government in Kaduna State

He said, the kidnapping took place on Monday at about 8 pm the minister and her husband were returning to Kaduna from Federal Capital Territory.

He also confirmed that the kidnappers had contacted the family and were still insisting on 10 million naira ransom before they could them free.

The Police Command in Kaduna State has confirmed the kidnapped.

The Command’s spokesman, ASP Aliyu Usman, told Journalists in Kaduna that the two were abducted along Bwari/Jere axis on Kaduna-Abuja highway on Monday evening.

Usman said that the abductors took away the former minister and her husband, but spared their driver.

He said, the Police was on track to rescue the former Minister and her husband unhurt.

Meanwhile, Churches in Kaduna have declared prayer and fasting for the freedom of the abducted persons.

When LEADERSHIP visit the residence of the former Minister, relatives and well wishers were trooping in to pray with family members for the safe release of the parent from the kidnappers dens.

As the time of fielding this report, the kidnappers were still on the N10m ransom.
