The Imo State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) appears to have plunged into troubled waters following alleged cases of job racketeering involving a 3-star officer, James Ofoegbu, popularly called ‘Onye Israel’ in the Command.

Ofoegbu, a native of Awka, Anambra state, is alleged to have illicitly developed a ‘money-for-job’ racketeering using the name of the Commandant to defraud his unsuspecting victims.

It was, however, not confirmed if the Commandant involved in the deals is the former, Pedro Idebo or his successor, Stephen Lar.

The Anambra-born NSCDC official, whom it was gathered was posted in one of the local government councils in the state, was last year recalled to the command for close monitoring after it was discovered that he had allegedly criminally defrauded his victims over N10 million.

It was further gathered that his recall followed the refusal of the authorities of Imo NSCDC to approve his application for voluntary retirement, which was suspected to be a move to hurriedly disengage

from the service NSCDC and possibly elope with proceeds of his illicit deals.

A source at the Command, further hinted that since Ofoegbu was recalled to the command last year, he has not been receiving salaries as his emolument is expressly deployed for the repayment of victims whose cases have been reasonably proven by the authorities of the command.

Narrating his ordeal, Mr. Vincent Okoroegbu from Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, disclosed how Ofoegbu allegedly defrauded him of the sum of N450,000 with fake promise of enlisting her daughter, Miss Chisom Okoroegbu, a graduate of Federal University of Technology Owerri, into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Upon realising that he has been defrauded, Okoroegbu declined and demand for the refund of his money. He also threatened to report the matter to Imo NSCDC authorities.

When contacted, the public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Imo command, Mr. Chimezirim Lowell, denied knowing James Ofoegbu, as an officer in the command.
