London Metropolitan Police on Thursday said a 41-year old man was arrested after he scaled a wall into the grounds of Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth II’s official residence in London, a statement said.
The Metropolitan police said in a statement that he was arrested after the police received a report that the man had breached security by scaling a perimeter wall at the palace.
“He was located in the grounds by officers and arrested on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site seven minutes after the alarm was activated’’, the statement said, adding that the unarmed man remains in custody.
The head of the force’s royal protection unit, Commander Adrian Usher, said he was satisfied that their security measures worked effectively on the occasion and at no time was any individual at risk.
However, the statement did not say if the queen and other members of the royal family were at the palace during the intrusion. (dpa/NAN)
