Kano: NCDC suspends operations at COVID-19 test centre

The COVID-19 test laboratory centre of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, in Kano State has suspended operations.

DAILY POST reports that NCDC on April 9 activated COVID-19 test centre at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.

But the Director, Centre for Infectious Diseases Research, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Prof. Isah Abubakar, disclosed on Wednesday that the centre has been suspended.

Abubakar said that the Centre had run out of test kits such as reagents.

According to him, the shortage was observed on Tuesday when the Centre tested 44 persons, and the reagents were only enough for 40 as the results for the other four were invalid due to shortage of reagents.

‘’Right now, as I speak to you, the four others that the results were invalid yesterday have been sent to Abuja to complete the test and get results,” Abubakar said.

Abubakar, however, noted that they have notified the NCDC headquarters in Abuja and are expecting them to restock the Centre.

Meanwhile, Kano has recorded 73 confirmed cases of COVID-19, one death, and no patient has been discharged as of Tuesday night, according to NCDC.
