Eight persons were yesterday sentenced to a total of 104 years imprisonment by a High Court in Kwale, Delta State for the kidnap of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Monday Igbuya.

Eight persons were yesterday sentenced to a total of 104 years imprisonment by a High Court in Kwale, Delta State for the kidnap of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Monday Igbuya.
Igbuya was abducted on May 21, 2009 at Sapele.The accused persons who were convicted by Justice O. Jalogo-Williams are Godspower Ikoro, Godspower Omoniyi (an ex-soldier), Ernest Atteh, John Adapamu, Ife Freedom, Sunday Uba Tiemo, Kemi Koinyang and Isaiah Mumbor.
They were charged on a six-count charge of conspiracy to commit felony, kidnapping, armed robbery and the abduction of Igbuya and demanding N100 million ransom.
The victim was released on May 27, 2009 after six days.Justice Jalogo-Williams found the eight accused persons guilty of kidnapping and demanding property with threat and sentenced them to 10 years each with hard labour for kidnapping and three years in imprisonment for demanding N100 million.
The court further held that the sentences are to run concurrently.The trial judge, however, discharged them on the count of armed robbery for lack of sufficient evidence.
