The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole fighting insurgency in the North East, Maj Gen Lucky Irabor has disclosed that “Operation Rescue Finale “ has rescued 605 Boko Haram captives from Sambisa forest and environs between 7th – 14th of December 2016.
He also stated some terrorists was killed and several others arrested, in addition to recovery of ammunition and cash.
Gen Irabor made the disclosure yesterday in Maiduguri while updating journalists on the successes recorded by troops in Borno.
“Between 7th-14th December 2016, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole were able to rescue 605 Boko Haram captives from Sambisa forest and environs in the encounter tagged ‘operation rescue finale.’ Troops were also able to kill and arrest quite a number of terrorists, in addition to recovery of ammunition and cash within the said period.
“The rescued comprised 69 male adults, 180 female adults, 227 male children, and 129 female children, bringing the total to 605,” Maj Gen Irabor said.
On items recovered from the terrorists, Gen Irabor said they will be tendered as exhibits after which the cash will be taken to government coffer through appropriate channel.
Irabor urged members of Boko Haram terrorists willing to surrender to do so as the Army has prepared ground for their rehabilitation, empowerment and reintegration into the society.
He advised residents to be cautious of Boko Haram terrorists pretending to be menial job seekers in their environment, adding that the curfew in Maiduguri will soon be reviewed following the emerging peace in the state.
