A mob on Tuesday burnt to death a commercial motorcyclist, accused of robbery at Finger bus stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
Our correspondent learnt that the okada rider, whose name had yet to be ascertained, and another man on the motorcycle, had allegedly robbed some pedestrians and thereafter attempted to escape.
PUNCH Metro gathered that some policemen on patrol gave the duo a chase, during which the man behind the okada rider was shot. He reportedly fell off, and was arrested.
Some pedestrians were said to have waylaid the fleeing okada rider, after which a mob set him ablaze.
The suspect and his motorcycle were reportedly burnt beyond recognition, before policemen arrived at the scene.
A pedestrian at the bus stop said, “The two wanted to escape on the motorcycle after dispossessing some pedestrians of their belongings. They were armed with guns. When the policemen intercepted them, the motorcyclist did not stop.
“But a mob waylaid him, beat him to stupor and set him on fire.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said she had yet to verify the incident.
