Samuel Awoyinfa, Abeokuta
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has called on traditional rulers in Yoruba land to unite so as to foster peaceful coexistence and development in the region.
He said this on Tuesday during his visit to the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The monarch was in company with high chiefs of Ibadan and dignitaries, among whom were the Balogun of Ibadanland, Owolabi Olakulehin; Otun Balogun, Femi Olaifa; Asipa, Eddy Oyewole; Osi Balogun, Tajudeen Ajibola; Dr Lekan Are; Ekerin Balogun, Latif Gbadamosi; Aare Alasa, Oloye Lekan Alabi, among others.
The Olubadan, who had earlier visited the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu; Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, noted that the support accorded him by Oba Gbadebo during his coronation as the 41st Olubadan, was heart-warming.
He emphasised that all Yoruba monarchs must promote unity among themselves at all times.
The Alake recalled the history linking between the Ibadan people and the Egba, adding that the relationship dated back to the 13th century.
He said there were some communities in Ibadanland which shared some similarities with the Egba, expressing his wish that the relationship would continue to grow without hindrances.
