One person was said to have been killed while others were injured after a clash in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
It was gathered on Wednesday that the clash was between a faction of the Tricycle Association of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, in the Gambari area of Ilorin.
Eyewitnesses, who claimed that the crisis started on Tuesday, said the deceased victim was hit by a stray bullet fired by one of the armed policemen deployed in the scene to restore normalcy on Wednesday.
Our correspondent learnt that the crisis spread to the Ipata and Amilegbe areas of the state, leading to shop owners, residents and passersby fleeing the places.
The operatives of the state joint security unit called, ‘Operation Harmony,’ were reportedly dispatched to restore normalcy to the area.
They were said to have arrested six suspects.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Police command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the clash.
He said, “Peace has returned to the area. Residents should go about their legitimate activities without fear. The Commissioner of Police has beefed up security in the area to avert reprisal.”
