Katsina state Police Command at the weekend confirmed the arrest of an agent of a suspected human trafficking syndicate and 22 suspected victims of the criminal gang.
The command’s police public relations officer, Isah Gambo, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), said in a statement that the suspects were arrested at Kwado quarters in Katsina metropolis following a tip off to detectives.
He revealed that out of the 22 suspected victims of human trafficking found in the house of their agent, identified as Suleiman Mannir, of Daki Tara, Kofar Kaura quarters in Katsina, only 16 were in possession of international passports.
He added that the 12 female and 10 male suspects from Edo, Delta and Rivers states were about to be sneaked out of the country through Nigeria – Niger borders when the police swooped on them.
The suspects include Omorodion Pedro, Festus Agbano, Innocent Oubkhan, Osabohen Idehen, Omogiate Emmanuel, Uche Okorie, Cherast Lawanel, AAbhalenonkhugbe Joseph, Amoninted Johnsen, Evelyn Avuwarhkji, Akpsiri Happy and Mercy Chucks among others.
Leadership Sunday gathered that the suspects would soon be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) after police investigations.
