In a bid to bring the Nigeria Police Force closer and responsible to the people and in line with the mandate of the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, Muhammad Mustafa, yesterday, launched the “Change Begins With Me Campaign” in Abuja.
The Commissioner also flagged off the distribution of the flyers for the rebranded Police Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU).
Recall that the rebranded PCRRU was recently launched at Wuse market, Abuja by IGP Ibrahim Idris, with the direction that all commands lunch the programme in their various unit for for friendlier Police force.
According to the CP, the PCRRU provides seven different platforms which are inscribed on flyers through which members of the public can reach the unit phone call, SMS, WhatsApp, Blackberry messengers, Twitter, Facebook and email.
Speaking further on the programme, the CP, who quoted the IGP explained that ”the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) is a unit in the Force saddled with the responsibility of receiving and resolving all complaints of Police professional misconduct emanating from policing activities and operations nationwide.
“The Unit is available 24 hours a day to listen to members of the public from across Nigeria. In line with the change agenda of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the “Change Begins With Me” campaign, the Nigeria Police Force under my leadership is ensuring Police accountability to the Nigerian people by ensuring that all citizens and residents of the country have a Unit through which all grievances against Police actions and inactions are taken up and redressed.”
Recall that former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, in November, 2015, launched the establishment of a special unit in the police force to monitor, investigate and recommend punishment for police officers suspected of corruption and misconduct, especially in the course of carrying out their duties.
